Frozenheim puts you in the role of a Jarl leading up a clan of Norse settlers and countryfolk. There is a single-player campaign here as well as several ways to play in multiplayer. For the single-player part, you play your way through several scenarios which see your clan betrayed by treacherous kin and their own armies, as well as battles across land and sea. Each scenario guides you further into the various mechanics of the game as you learn to survive and grow in changing weather and treacherous terrain. Ultimately, you unlock and learn to use everything at your disposal to effectively build a bristling Viking settlement ready to pillage, burn, and slay those who would threaten you.

When I previewed Frozenheim around this time last year, I was pretty content with the overall experience. It was a chill, relaxing city-builder with the occasional battle thrown in the mix, neither one really feeling particularly urgent or complex (i.e., my type of game). I mean, yes, obviously the game threw nord hordes at you and you, in turn, threw hordes of nords at them, but in between all that nord-hordery was a lovely village sim where townsfolk went about their business and seasons passed in the blink of an eye. I was excited to see how the dev team built up the game from there, but for the most part, I already found it to be enjoyable, albeit a bit on the short side. How does it fare a year later?
For US$16.99, or whatever your regional equivalent is, Frozenheim is an absolute steal. This is a fantastic example of how to release a game into Early Access. It offers an extremely polished experience with enough content to satiate your city-building real-time strategy needs until its first big update. Sure, there are some inconsistencies here and there, but for the most part, Frozenheim is a shining example of how to take an overburdened genre and breathe new life into it. This is a genuinely brilliant strategy game with a lot to offer, and one I cannot recommend enough.
Frozenheim system requirements state that you will need at least 4 GB of RAM. Additionally, the game developers recommend somewhere around 8 GB of RAM in your system. In terms of game file size, you will need at least 5 GB of free disk space available. To play Frozenheim you will need a minimum CPU equivalent to an Intel Core 2 Duo E8700. However, the developers recommend a CPU greater or equal to an Intel Core i5-2550K to play the game. The cheapest graphics card you can play it on is an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660. Furthermore, an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070 is recommended in order to run Frozenheim with the highest settings.
